Conventions/Congresses

  • A green EULAR 2017 takes over IFEMA
It is one of the continent's XXL congresses, an essential moment in the healthcare world, which gathered 14,300 professionals. The EULAR congress brought together doctors, scientists, health professionals and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry around the world, from 14th to 17th of June. Quite an organisation challenge! We spoke with Antonio Guadagnoli of MCI Group, OPC who was in charge of organizing the congress and we review some of the highlights of the same.

Exhibition area. Large stands and striking designs are key to draw the congressman’s attention to the stands. So the stands featured elements that transmitted the identity of the exhibitor through music, rest areas with wifi and connections to charge smartphones, working areas, coffee and drinks, virtual reality animations to fully understand the various products and their healing impact, etc. An example: Roche's booth was inspired by nature, with pink trees and country sounds. Pharmaceutical company Otezla imitated the European cafés including the typical terraces, with stone-style flooring and vintage walls, where congressmen could enjoy a coffee while keeping informed about the products. Innovation is galore in a large congress like this one.
  • The world dental congress brings together 10,000 professionals in IFEMA
It is always a pride to see that a world or European congress comes to Spain. And it was the case when we saw FDI hold their world congress in Madrid. We spoke with Diego Herrera, congress director of PCO Grupo Pacífico, about the keys and the evolution of this major congress.
  • How IFEMA manages the most important aspect of your event: security
An interview with IFEMA's security Director

It is one of the most important responsibilities of the event organizer: the safety of attendees. IFEMA takes this mission very seriously and is here to ensure that risks are kept under control. We spoke with Alfonso Illescas Riaño, director of security and self-protection at IFEMA, to better understand the keys to a 'low risk’ event.

EHA congress, the key gathering of hematologists in Europe took place in Madrid in June, bringing 10,600 specialists in this essential field of medicine in the EHA congress. We talked to the team from the European Hematology Association responsible for organizing this congress and got to know a bit more…

  • IFEMA RESUMES ITS ACTIVITY WITH THE WORLD DENTAL CONGRESS
In the final four months of the year, the institution has 47 major congresses and trade shows scheduled in a year expected to close with record activity figures

Activity returns to IFEMA facilities with the World Dental Congress, between 29 August and 1 September, sponsored by the World Dental Federation, the first of the events on the IFEMA calendar which is now starting up again and includes another 46 major trade shows and congresses in the last four months of 2017.

The World Dental Congress is one of the oldest health-related events in the world and is held annually by one of the most historic organisations in the medical sector. The congress will host attendees and exhibitors from over 90 countries. Moreover, the event is expected to attract around 350 exhibitors and also to exceed the number of attendees at the 2016 edition, which was 12,000. The attendees will include experts on dentistry, periodontics, endodontics and oral surgery from all over the world. Madrid has been the site of three World Dental Congresses, including one of the first annual sessions in 1903, at the invitation of Spanish doctor Florestan Aguilar, one of the founders of the FDI as well as a former president and secretary-general, who was a federation member for over 30 years.
  • World Dental Congress at IFEMA
Madrid will host the 105th edition of the FDI World Dental Congress from 29 August to 1 September
  • Great technology and fluid formats: 7,000 air traffic control professionals gather at IFEMA
From 7th to 9th of March 2017, the World ATM congress was held in IFEMA, organized as in its previous editions by Conference Studio. A 5th edition which stands out for its technical improvements as well as a constant mix of training, exhibition and networking, a key combination to maximise engagement. The result: a resounding success and an obvious satisfaction of the association, which has decided to extend its contract in Madrid and with Conference Studio until 2022.

Figures looking up. There is no doubt about the health of a congress that arrived in Madrid with the ambition of having 3,000 attendees: this edition reached 7,000 attendees, a considerable increase compared to 5,000 last year. According to Smara Iglesia, head of Conference Studio, "when you know a congress from birth, you are much better able to improve in each edition.
  • Close to 8,000 nephrologists gather in IFEMA for the ERA-EDTA
Great moment for the “kidney community” which came to Madrid to celebrate the ERA-EDTA Congress (European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplant Association). A congress which has a clinical approach that is much appreciated by the participants, but also a careful eye towars basic science, and consequently gathers a very large attendance.

Change and innovation have been on the agenda of ERA-EDTA for years already. If inovation includes technology, then the association fares well. It launched an app years ago and constantly improve it. Last year ERA-EDTA also launched an e-learning platform that makes the congress content availabe for the whole year. To get everyone aboard the social train is also very active on social media. All of this enable an interesting interactive.
