  • ARCOlisboa strengthens its global recognition
The fair, which closed its third edition yesterday with a positive sales outcome, has welcomed around 11,000 visitors, and stands out for its quality and the level of the artistic programmes and galleries.

The city and its institutions have bent over backwards for yet another year with events and exhibitions in its main museums, galleries and collection venues.

The third edition increases its gallery offer by up to a total of 72 proposals from 14 countries, representing a growth of 22.5%

New opening hours to better match the rhythms of Lisbon: 17 to 19 May 14:00 to 21:00 hours, and on Sunday 20, from 12:00 to 18:00 hours

From 17 to 20 May Lisbon will focus the attention of collectors, galleries, artists and art professionals from all over the world. IFEMA and the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa come together to celebrate ARCOlisboa 2018 at the Fábrica Nacional da Cordoaria; an edition, the third, which has consolidated its position as the great international gathering of contemporary art of Portugal. ARCO sets out to introduce new artists, places and people, and this year ARCOlisboa will offer more new developments than ever to the general public.

  • ´As Tables Are Shelves´
As Tables Are Shelves happens for its 3rd edition in Lisbon, Portugal as part of ARCOlisboa. There is no hesitation on my part when affirming that a publishing area at an art fair adds on immensely to the event as a whole. Mainly to the discussion and affirmation of the importance of artists’ books in artistic practice. Artists’ Books can range from actual artworks in book form, to special early rare editions of the Futurist movement, to contemporary fanzine publishing. The idea in an experiment like this one of ‘As Tables Are Shelves’ is to open up the participation to as many models possible – be it printmaking, posters, leaflets, the book, graphic design, pop-up, visual arts and poetry, literary narrative or pure conceptualism. Even if running parallel to the art world per se, the artista book and its derivatives has caught the interest of many and is now considered by scholars, curators and critics as fundamental in the discussion of contemporary art.

The intimacy in the relationship with an artist book is something unique and non- transferable, it’s a one-to-one connection with an artwork made so privately. May these publishing gatherings multiply and flourish as it makes such a difference in complementing and understanding the nature of so much art.

La Cordoaria Nacional, an outstanding example of 18th-century industrial architecture, will connect with the country's most contemporary architecture at this edition. In cooperation with the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, visitors will be able to enjoy a new area for meals and relaxation, created by Atelier JQTS and carefully designed for the Cordoaria space and for visitors to ARCOlisboa.
  • ARCOlisboa 2018: experience the art, share the city
IFEMA and the Câmara de Municipal de Lisboa are joining forces to hold ARCOlisboa 2018 from 17 to 20 May.

This third edition of the fair will be a celebration of contemporary Portuguese art accompanied by interesting international initiatives that will make the event again a unique opportunity to experience this city’s history, architecture and light. Lisbon is a place like no other and, similarly, ARCOlisboa is a fair like no other.

This is the third time that this celebration of contemporary Portuguese art is being held, accompanied by interesting international initiatives that will make the event a unique opportunity to experience this city’s history, architecture and light.
