  • FITUR launches at IFEMA the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development with a rise in its participation figures

For Madrid, the staging of the International Tourism Trade Fair will represent revenue in excess of 240 million euros, in an event that registers growth in the region of 10%

The increase in international exhibitors, which is estimated to be 9%, together with the larger surface occupied by FITUR 2017, around 62,500 square metres, points to an increase in visitors, which last year amounted to 231,872 people

The Madrid-based World Tourism Organisation reinforces FITUR’s position as a major worldwide benchmark for the industry, adding to its activities the central event kicking off the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and, again, the presentation of its International Awards for Excellence and Innovation

  • Sustainable destinations increase their value among the more than 1.2 billion tourists who travelled in 2016, as will be established at FITUR, the trade fair organised by IFEMA
Between 2014 and 2015 demand for more sustainable destinations has increased fivefold; accessibility represents 27% of total population and 12% of the tourism market

The dynamising and business-generating role of tourism is boosted by the forecasts of 1.8 billion travellers worldwide by 2030 and the more than 74 million tourists Spain received in 2016

The Spanish Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism presents the Multi-Destination: the challenges and opportunities of the transnational union

The International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR, which will stage its 37th edition from 18 to 22 January 2017, organised by IFEMA, will feature the participation of the Spanish Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism, AECIT, which is scheduling a series of workshops on Tourism Innovation. Multi-destinations with a closed budget are some of the most in-demand criteria when searching for a trip on the internet. This is apparent from a report drafted by Amadeus and PhocusWright (Empowering Inspiration: The Future of Travel Search) in 2012. According to the Association of Caribbean States, ACS, historically the focus in tourism development was on a single-destination model in which each country and/or destination competes for its share of the market, using a variety of marketing and promotion strategies to attract visitors. This unilateral approach still prevails to a great extent in the countries of the Greater Caribbean despite the efforts of several Regional Agencies to promote joint ventures.

The Trade Fair organised by IFEMA will be the stage where the principal destinations, agencies and tour operators, hotels and restaurants, transportation companies and technology and service companies will present their greatest attractions, boost the arrival of visitors and multiply their business opportunities
